MTN CHAMPS Season 3: Lagos Showed Up, Records Went Down
Date: May 6, 2025
Location: Lagos
The city of Lagos churned out the next generation of Olympic champions as MTN CHAMPS Season 3 made its highly anticipated stop in Nigeria’s business capital, and it did not disappoint.
Festivities kicked off on April 8th with a press conference held at MTN Nigeria’s rooftop lounge. There, MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, and Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, shared how MTN CHAMPS is fuelling the dreams of young athletes and shaping the next generation of track and field legends.
The action then shifted to Yaba College of Technology and the University of Lagos Sports Complex, where the spirit of competition lit up both venues simultaneously. Day 1 opened with a powerful flag-off by Lekan Fatodu and Olympic legend Mary Onyali, setting the tone for what would be four days of grit, talent, and unforgettable moments.
From electrifying sprints to gravity-defying jumps and jaw-dropping throws, every heat was a masterclass in dedication. As the competition intensified on Days 2 and 3, the track became a battleground of ambition – athletes pushing limits, breaking barriers, and writing their names into CHAMPS history.
And in true MTN fashion, we brought a surprise twist: MTN staff laced up too. In an epic showcase of team spirit, they brought the heat to the track, proving they can serve network excellence and still chase gold.
By Day 4, it all culminated in a celebration of champions featuring medals, applause, and bragging rights well-earned.
