MTN Nigeria Breaks New Ground in Corporate Sustainability Reporting

Date: June 11, 2025
Location: Lagos

On May 8th, 2025, MTN Nigeria made history as the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to present its Sustainability Report at the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), reaffirming our commitment to transparency, accountability, and purpose-driven leadership.

The landmark event — Facts Behind the Sustainability Report — offered a comprehensive look into how MTN is not only powering digital transformation but doing so with the planet and people in mind. It was a moment that reinforced our ambition to lead not just as a telecoms company, but as a “tech-co” with a conscience.

Here are some of the highlights from our 2024 Sustainability Report:

  • 93% national network coverage, connecting more Nigerians to the digital world.
  • 11% reduction in carbon emissions (Scope 1 & 2) from our 2021 baseline, showing our commitment to climate action.
  • ₦5 billion invested in Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives that uplift communities.
  • ₦764 billion contributed to taxes and levies, supporting national development.
  • 4% female representation in our workforce, driving inclusion and gender balance.
  • 6% of procurement spend directed to local Nigerian suppliers, strengthening homegrown enterprise.

From rolling out eco-friendly SIM cards to accelerating inclusive economic growth, we’re raising the bar for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards in Nigeria’s private sector.

A true reflection of our vision: To lead with impact, grow with purpose, and stay here for good.
