MTN Sparks Conversations on Africa’s Digital Audio Future

Date: May 7, 2026
Location: Ikoyi

On May 7 and 8, 2026, MTN Nigeria hosted “Reverberation: The Blueprint for Africa’s Digital Audio Future”, a two-day music business workshop and industry roundtable at the MTN Rooftop Event Centre in Lagos. The workshop brought together artists, producers, record labels, publishers, music executives, technology innovators, and other key players to discuss the future of music creation, distribution, and monetisation in Africa.

Over the two days, conversations centred on the realities shaping today’s digital music economy, from creator earnings and audience insights to rights management, platform development, and sustainable monetisation. The sessions created room for honest dialogue on what African creators need to thrive, and how stronger local infrastructure can help the industry capture more value from the global rise of African music.

The event brought together voices from across Nigeria’s music landscape, spanning different generations and platforms. Discussions were candid and wide-ranging, addressing streaming revenue gaps, the lack of transparency in distribution, and the urgent need for Africa to build its own digital music infrastructure. The message from the room was clear: global recognition is growing, but so must the systems that ensure creators are fairly rewarded.

MTN Nigeria reinforced its intention to re-enter the music space with a different approach. The company acknowledged past shortcomings and committed to prioritising transparency, collaboration, and artist-focused solutions. Through Reverberation, MTN positioned itself not as a platform provider, but as a partner willing to listen, learn, and co-build the future of digital audio in Africa with the ecosystem that powers it.
