We celebrated Children’s Day grandly by hosting over 200 kids from various secondary schools for an event themed “Tech Maker: The Next Wave.”

In partnership with Google, the event was designed to inspire our young minds to become tech entrepreneurs. The focus was to help kids realise the tech industry’s enormous potential and create awareness among themselves about the skills required to succeed in this field.

Schools in attendance were Kadel Comprehensive College Ikorodu, Methodist Boys High School, Methodist Girls High School, Igbobi College, Queens College, Kings College, Regan Memorial Baptist Girls, Baptist Academy Boys, and New Estate Baptist Secondary School. The winner of the 2021 mPulse spelling Bee competition, Akinyele Ademoyegun and his schoolmates were also in attendance.

MTN Nigeria Chief Marketing Officer Adia Sowho and Director West Africa – Google, Juliet Ehimuan, were present and gave introductory speeches.

A panel of tech experts—Ruth Ikegah, a Backend Developer, Technical Writer, and Open Source Advocate; Obaloluwa Odelana, a 17-year-old self-taught software developer who created his first game at the age of 11 by watching YouTube videos; and Josh Chibueze, the Co-founder/Chief marketing officer for PiggyVest—spoke to kids about their journeys into tech and their experiences so far.

Many aspiring entrepreneurs today want to develop new technology and make their mark in the tech world — however, they don’t know how to begin. This was a great way to start for the future leaders of tomorrow.

There were lots of games, music and refreshment
