The Igu-Koton-Karfe kingdom in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State will hold the third edition of its fishing/cultural festival on the 15th of April 2019. The event is known for its display of boat regatta, symposium/exhibition/and cultural display.
The fishing festival usually has no fewer than 3,000 fishermen which comprise of elders, middle-aged men and youths from different ethnic backgrounds such as, Ganagana, Bassa, Igala, Agatu, Gwari. The Egbura indigenes of Igu-Koton-Karfe kingdom use this day to come together to celebrate the Igu fishing festival.
Various cultural troupes usually converge in front of the palace of the Ohimegye of Igu-Koton-Karfe, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isa Koto, to display their dancing steps, with masquerades on hand too with different attires to entertain till dawn.
The biggest catch for this year was 56.8kg. We were pleased to have sponsored such a historical event.
