Date: March 11, 2026
Location: Ikoyi
On March 11, 2025, MTN Nigeria handed over its chief executive seat to Oreoluwa Alayande, a 15-year-old secondary school student of St. Lawrence Nursery, Primary & Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, as part of its commitment to inspiring the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
Oreoluwa earned the honour through an outstanding performance at the mPulse Spelling Bee Competition 2025, which crowned her as the winner. As MTN’s CEO for a Day, she arrived at MTN headquarters ready to make the most of every moment. Dressed for the role and in early, she wasted no time settling into the demands of the day.
Her schedule was nothing short of full. She presided over meetings with MTN’s top management, went on a comprehensive departmental tour, and attended the Women at Y’ello conference where she delivered an inspiring speech to an audience of MTN’s leaders and staff. Throughout it all, she carried herself with a composure and confidence well beyond her years.
This was not merely a symbolic gesture. It was MTN’s deliberate investment in a young girl who had put in the work, showed up prepared, and demonstrated exactly the kind of potential that MTN is passionate about nurturing across Nigeria.
As the day drew to a close with photo sessions, warm embraces, and a generous parting gift, the pride across the building was unmistakable. Oreoluwa Alayande walked into MTN headquarters as a Spelling Bee champion. She left as proof that Nigeria’s future is in very capable hands.
