Osimhen Calls on Nigerians To Be The 12th Man

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are aiming to qualify for a place at the World Cup taking place in Qatar later this year, as they take on perennial rivals Ghana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Both countries come into this fixture on the back of debatable poor form. Despite winning all three group stage games at the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year, the Super Eagles, ranked 32nd in the latest FIFA World rankings, have managed only one win in their last five home games, while Ghana has not won any of their last five games across all competition.

The Super Eagles have a strong squad but have a few injury concerns. Speaking yesterday at his pre-match press conference, Coach Augustine Eguavoen, said Samuel Chukwueze and Innocent Bonke are big doubts.

“Chukwueze and Bonke are under observation. The result hasn’t come. The medical team is still working on them. I’m expecting a report from the medical team once they get that to me at 9pm tonight we will know if they will be on the pitch or not. But we have enough personnel in the team that can do the job,” he said. It remains to be seen if Eguavoen will be tempted to start a lethal attacking side comprising of Emmanuel Dennis, Kelechi Iheanacho, and new man, Ademola Lookman all starting behind Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen has called on Nigerians to be the 12th man in the stadium to provide a much-needed boost. “We’d be playing with our 12th man, that is, our fans. With the way they’d support us, we have a chance of getting this world cup ticket. It won’t be easy. We have to give respect to the Ghanaian team. They have some great quality players, but we are ready also. We have great quality individuals that can win games for us. We also have good squad depth. We’re looking forward to this game as a group,” Osimhen told NFF TV.

Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo has promised they’d give their best to clinch the ticket to the world cup. “We’re not going to go to sleep because it’s going to be a difficult game. Ghana will come all out because they have nothing to lose. We just have to give our best – 110%, take our chances, fight from start to finish. We are going to win by God’s grace,” he says.
